Know Which Way the Wind Blows
Foreign Policy put out this paraphrased survey with poll statistics to back it up. How do John and Jane Doe really feel about the war in Iraq, the war on terror, the presidential race, foreign and domestic policies, and more. Perhaps a good indicator on what the results may be in the upcoming election.

Kinko the Clown
In another story from the "life" imitates "art" file, not unlike the twisted Dr. Demeto classic Kinko the Kid-loving clown, a fool from the Ringling Bros. circus has been arrested for kiddie porn. Like Pete Townsend, I'm sure he was just dong a little research.

"When I talked to the president, he was loaded."
The year was 1973. The Watergate scandal was peaking, tension between the US and the Soviets was at a boiling point, and the Arab-War had entered its fifth day. As Prime Minister of England Edward Heath tried to contact Richard Nixon for urgent consultations, Henry Kissinger and Brent Scowcroft attempted to reschedule the call the following day without letting the cat out of the bag about the monkey on his back. This moment, remeniscent of a scene from Dr. Strangelove, is one of many madcap laughs contained in the nearly 20,000-page phone transcripts recently released by the Natioinal Archive.

Speaking of Civil War
Homophobe Corey Burnell is attempting to start a movement where evangelical Christians who are opposed to gay marriage will all move to South Carolina. Once their population in the Palmetto state has peaked, they plan to dominate the state's political machine and force a secession from the US.

It Took A Think Tank ...
and an unnecessary Iraq War to come to the conclusion that such a misadventure would increase the popularity of Al Qaeda, not hinder it. Interestingly, my brother and I were disucssing this same topic in December of 2002, and we came to the same conclusion. Are we psychic, or was this not the most obvious of outcomes? Many others were making similar observations around this time, but it seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. And now that it looks like Bush is working to pass off the future responsibility of running Iraq to an unnamed puppet goverment (enforced by an explicit American military presence), his administration seems to be no shifting responsibility for going to war to the now discredited Chalabi, who they now claim had been passing "misinformation" to the US the entire time. As Iraq slips closer and closer into civil war (a la Vietnam), we now know along with the Ba'athists, Shias, and Kurds, Al Qaeda recruits will be making a pronounced cameo appearance.
