Italian-American Group Accuses De Niro of Cultural Minstrelsy
Echoing back to a controversy over the Sopranos, both as a topic of an episode and the public reaction to it, an Italian American group, the Order Sons of Italy in America have condemned the honoring of Robert De Niro at the Venice Film Festival this September. The Italian government plans to grant the American thespian honorary citizenship. But the lobbying group, based in DC, objects to this claiming De Niro has offered nothing but negative stereotypes of Italian Americans in his nearly four decades of work.

However, after investigating De Niro filmography, we at Worldwide have found that in only a fraction of his work does he play an "Italian gangster." In fact, he seems to have played a detective, a doctor or a priest far more often. In at least two of his gangster rolls, De Niro's mobsters are Jewish (Casino and Once Upon a Time in America). But most of the time, De Niro plays an ethnically ambiguous, though red-blooded, American whose edgy though understated performances leave such memorable impressions on us.

He's a Goss: Part Two
More great quotes from your future former CIA Chief, when speaking with Michael Moore only several months back:

I couldn't get a job with CIA today. I am not qualified.

I don't have the language skills. I, you know, my language skills were romance languages and stuff. We're looking for Arabists today. I don't have the cultural background probably.

And I certainly don't have the technical skills, as my children remind me every day: 'Dad, you got to get better on your computer.

So, the things that you need to have, I don't have.

And President Bush, in keeping with his sound judgment, characterized Goss as such just several days ago:

Porter Goss is a leader with strong experience in intelligence and in fighting against terrorism.

He's a Goss: Former CIA Director Reveals Why Bush Chose Porter
"Because the President was motivated to nominate Goss in order to improve his electoral chances, not to improve our intelligence. Please note that yesterday he announced the nomination of Goss, a Floridian, at the White House and immediately flew to Florida to campaign. Shame! Intelligence and politics do not mix. "

Special Quotes from the Author of "Unfit for Command."

Jerry Corsi, author of the right-wing screed attacking Kerry which has already been refuted by one of the "Swiftboat Veterans" signees, has opinions which reflect his world view. The follwing are just a smattering of his well-publicized quotes:

"Islam is a peaceful religion — just as long as the women are beaten, the boys buggered and the infidels are killed."

"So this is what the last days of the Catholic Church are going to look like. Buggering boys undermines the moral base and the lawyers rip the gold off the Vatican altars. We may get one more Pope, when this senile one dies, but that's probably about it."

"After he married TerRAHsa, didn't John Kerry begin practicing Judaism? He also has paternal grandparents that were Jewish. What religion is John Kerry?"

Corsi explains each of these staements was merely a joke, though we at Worldwide are still looking for the punchline. Corsi obviously has a problem with Catholics, Muslims, and Jews, which would make him a ripe candidate for grand dragon of the KKK.

We await the the publishing of the rebuttal to Corsi's book, Unfit to Judge: Neo Nazi's Seig Heil to Jerry Corsi.

Milestone of 1,000th U.S. Death in Iraq Looms for Bush

Hubble Stays
After George Bush proclaimed his retro-visionary plan of sending a man to the Moon and even Mars, an over-excited NASA realized they would have to make serious financial cuts to their current projects to pay for such lofty goals. One of the first to go on the chopping block was the highly successful and still operating Hubble Telescope, a satellite which can observe the edges of all space and time. Astro-scientists went ballistic, and launched a campaign to maintain the invaluable Hubble into the future. The challenge represented another scenario that has come to characterize the Bush presidency - blowing off legitimate, focused causes for the misinformed whims of Bush's administration. The most glaring example would be his hazily defined "War on Terror." After having legitimate reasons to go unseat the ruthless Taliban in Afghanistan
and banish Al Qaeda, the current administration went on to its misadvnetures in Iraq before finishing the job. Reports from Kabul leave much to be desired, just as Iraq is an utter mess. Hopefully, Afghan citizens will take some cues from the scientific community to refocus world attention for a teetering nation. BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Nasa to save Hubble telescope

Supporters Think Bush is the Almighty

Potential CIA Head Already Publicly Sucking Administration's Butt
Rep. Porter Goss, President Bush's petential candidate to head teh dysfunctional CIA, admits he sees no crime in the revelation of Joseph Wilson's wife a covert intelligence operative. He seems to draw a fine line between "willful" and "inadvertant" leaking, but that line becomes hazier depending on which side of the political spectrum you're on. Mishandling secret information, according to Goss maybe forgiven, he implies, on his watch. However, he elaborates, "Somebody sends me a blue dress and some DNA, I'll have an investigation."

Pastor Tells Bushies to Give Up All Material Possessions, then Gives them High Five
While attending a church service in the Northeast for a family wedding, Presidents George Bush I and Geroge Bush II got an earful during the sermon. Using the Bushs' penchant for golf as a parable, he admonished private communities that ''tend to keep out God's people ... Our material gifts do not have to be a wall -- they can very well be a door ... Jesus says .. Sell your possessions and give alms ... I'm convinced that what we keep owns us, and what we give away sets us free." He expanded the allusion where Bush's "mighty swing" kept missing the ball, killing the community of ants. ''If we're going to live, we better get on the ball."

At the conclusion of the service, the Very Rev. Martin Luther Agnew Jr. went into the pews and gave a stonefaced HW Bush a high five.
