Anarchist Media Site in UK Shut Down by US Gov't
The FBI shut down Indymedia's servers hosted by US company Rackspace at the request of the Italian and Swiss governments. Curiously, the servers, though based in a London facility, were apparently under the jurisdiction of US, since the Rackspace alleged it had received a court order from the stateside authorities.
Indymedia responded in a statement that it "had been asked last month by the FBI to remove a story about Swiss undercover police from one of the websites hosted at Rackspace."
Indymedia is an open news bulletin board where anyone can report a story. There is little or no editing, nor legitimized fact-checking, nor any central organization for accountability.
