Police Infiltrate Protests, Videotapes Show Keeping in line with President Bush's FBI, Bloomberg's NYPD spies on non-threats such as those who protest Bush's sham war, Critical Mass, and mourners. We're all feeling so much safer. Thank you, Mayor Mr. Big Brother for protecting us from ourselves. During the Republican National Convention, the sham arrest of a man secretly working with the police led to a bruising confrontation between officers in riot gear and bystanders. Aren't the NYPD here inciting a riot? New York Times

Annan Bitches out Reporter"I think you're being very cheeky. Listen James Bone, you've been behaving like an overgrown schoolboy in this room for many, many months and years," the UN secretary general said. "You are an embarrassment to your colleagues and to your profession. Please stop misbehaving and please let's move on to a serious subject," he added. F.B.I. Watched Activist Groups, New Files Show
Wow. Americans must feel much safer that we are using our resources not to uncover sleeper cells but to spy on groups like the Vegan Community Project, PETA, and Greenpeace.

Big Brother Bush attempted to Bully NY Times Editors into not reporting Domestic Spying
The would-be dictator becomes desperate. And while he tries to obfuscate all sense of checks-and-balances, at least there are publications like the NY Times, even though perhaps they should have published this story a year ago in the shadow of the elections.

Suicide Reveals Strife in Group Behind the Globes "They basically took a livelihood away from a guy who was out there trying to earn a living," Mr. O'Kane said. "It led completely, directly to what ended up happening to Nick." ... According to members of the association, Mr. Douglas, who was also an aspiring actor, was disciplined ... mainly for having sold a picture of himself and Tom Selleck to The Globe for $50, which is against the group's rules, and for having taken unopened beers from a reception thrown by MGM ... [recently, Philip Berk, the association's president] wrote a letter of apology to the actor Brendan Fraser for having grabbed the actor's buttocks during a ceremony to announce a charitable contribution, though Mr. Berk said in an interview that he did no such thing and wrote the letter only to mollify the actor. For the Record: Wikipedia vs. The RegisterWikipedia certainly has its detractors. Andrew Orlowski, writing in The Register, a UK-based technology website, is scathing in his dismissal of the site as a cult-like organisation where faith triumphs rationality, and even suggests we look at Wikipedia as "a massively scalable, online role-playing game" where "players can assume fictional online identities and many 'editors' do just that". For more info, see The Register's recent story " Wikipedia founder shot dead by 'friend of Siegenthaler'" below. BBC NEWS | Technology | What is it with Wikipedia?

Bigger brotherPRESIDENT BUSH WAS CAVALIER on Friday night when he told Jim Lehrer on PBS that a report about the National Security Agency eavesdropping on U.S. citizens was "not the main story of the day." He is entitled to his own news judgment, but it reveals a lot about his willingness to disregard constitutional safeguards and civil liberties while pursuing the war on terrorism. To the rest of us, the revelation in the New York Times that the National Security Agency has been eavesdropping on people within the United States without judicial warrants was stunning. In one of the more egregious cases of governmental overreach in the aftermath of 9/11, Bush secretly authorized the monitoring, without any judicial oversight, of international phone calls and e-mail messages from the United States. Wikipedia founder shot dead by 'friend of Siegenthaler'"Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has been shot dead, according to Wikipedia, the online, up-to-the-minute encyclopedia. Apparently, the assassin was a "friend" of the victim of a recent controversy which ironically, smeared former Robert F Kennedy aid John Seigenthaler as a suspect in the assassination of both Kennedy brothers. That claim, which the site carried for several months, along with the assertion that Seigenthaler had lived in Russia, was eventually proved false ... For the record, The Register must note that the ubermeister of Wikipedia appears to be alive and well The "news" of his death consisted of a random edit to his own, particularly fulsome entry on the encyclopedia he helped create. ®" Wikipedia founder 'shot by friend of Siegenthaler' | The Register
